چکیده
Abstract A premature pitting corrosion in seam-welded 3-inch L235 steel pipe was reported to occur after 8 years service. This part of a closed ice water cooling system, where the inlet temperature 6 °C and outlet 11 °C. The present work aimed investigate causes this through metallographic investigations. comprised visual examination internal surfaces microstructural examinations perforation regions (pitting areas) using optical scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. investigations showed that pits occurred only areas huge number specific micro-voids can be associated excessive presence trapped hydrogen dissolved steel, probably during steelmaking operations.

متن کاملIMPROVING PITTING CORROSION OF 304 STAINLESS STEEL BY ELECTROPOLISHING TECHNIQUE
Several surface modification techniques such as ion implantation, surface laser melting, have been employed to improve pitting corrosion resistance of stainless steel. Electropolishing is a technique in which the surface roughness is eliminated through a selective electrochemical dissolution. The effect of electropolishing on pitting corrosion of 304 stainless steel (SS) was investigated employ...

In this research pitting Corrosion of a sensitized 316 stainless steel was investigated employing potentiodynamic, potentiostatic techniques. Sensitization process was carried out on as-received alloy by submitting the specimen in electric furnace set at 650°Cfor five hours and then the specimen was quenched 25°C water. Potentiodynamic polarization of as received and sensitized specimens in 1M ...

In this study, the pitting type of corrosion growth characteristics, fatigue crack initiation and propagation behavior; axial fatigue tests were carried out on precipitation hardened martensitic Custom 450 steel in the air and 3.5wt% NaCl solution. Using the ratio of the depth to the half-width of the pits; (a/c)= 1.5±0.2 the corrosion pit depth growth law was obtained as a function of stress a...
متن کاملA Statistical Study on the Effect of Hydrostatic Pressure on Metastable Pitting Corrosion of X70 Pipeline Steel
Hydrostatic pressure effects on pitting initiation and propagation in X70 steel are investigated by evaluating metastable pitting probability using electrochemical methods and immersion corrosion tests in containing chlorine ion solution. Potentiodynamic tests indicated that hydrostatic pressure can decrease the breakdown potential and lead to a reduced transpassivity region. Metastable test re...
